No beer style has grown with the same momentum over the past two years as the New England IPA. Typically, the style is brewed with low bitterness, high haze and is packed full of fruit characters care of both yeast and hop selections. For our third birthday we have decided to brew a variation of the style. Using the same basic blueprint but removing the haze. The idea behind the concept was to experiment and find out if we could impart the same luxurious juicy characteristics that we love about the style but have it crystal clear, crisp and summery.

Whisky Barrel Aged Stout (2018)
Style: Stout - Imperial / Double
ABV: 8.6%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 4.00
A beer which is layered with many years of complexity, first from the whisky and then from the stout. Dark and thick in the glass the aroma has hints of chocolate, vanilla and a touch of coffee. The barrel's charred American oak gives the nose a subtle hint of campfire and roasted marshmallow. The palate is silky and sweet, vanilla is here again along with chocolate and honeycomb. This is followed by wisps of fine malt whisky, a touch of acidity, subtle unami and lingering, moreish finish. You want that next sip and it's easier than you would think to watch the whole bottle disappear in front of you as you enjoy the slow evolution in taste and aroma while it slowly warms in the glass.

Pouring a hazy golden colour the first thing that hits you is the aroma of fresh hops pouring out of the glass. Light bodied with a lovely carbonation, this mid strength IPA certainly holds nothing back on flavour. Look for a citrus/piney hit of fresh hops on the palate with a light malt backing and slight bitterness.
Hopco NZ Pale Ale
Style: Pale Ale - New Zealand
ABV: 4.8%
IBUs: 30
# Ratings: 3,576
Score: 3.75
The beer is an American style pale ale brewed with Pale and Munich malts to provide a smooth malty backbone to balance out the ample hops we threw at it. Hopco wanted to give some lesser known hop varieties some exposure so the following blend of hops were chosen: NZ Cascade, Motueka and Pacifica which together combine to give the beer a rich key lime pie / lemon curd cheesecake aroma and a light resinous character on the palate all backed up by a satisfying whack of bitterness. We'd like to think the NZ hop growers would get around a few pints of this one during their upcoming harvest.
Style: Stout - Oatmeal

A smooth 7.1% Stout brewed with Oats, Black and Chocolate malts, EKG and Columbus hops, Pirate Life Stout is perfect for the cooler months. The malts take centre stage with a cacophony of coffee, chocolate and sticky date pudding and a rich creamy mouthfeel thanks to the oats. Columbus smacks the palate with a healthy dose of bitterness and also works with EKG lending a gentle, earthy spiciness to the beer. The result is a stout that we here at Pirate Life are excited to share with you all.

The Pirate Life x Ballast Point Trans Pacific Partnership. A 6.0% American Strong Pale Ale liberally hopped with US, NZ and Australian hops and finished with Finger Limes and Coriander in the Whirlpool. To ensure that the tap decal stood out among our range we enlisted the help of our mate Steen Jones who came through with the goods: An epic scene of a tall ship sailing across the Pacific. We believe the beer, the artwork and the story behind it all reflect the unique style of Pirate Life and Ballast Point while celebrating the collaborative nature that helped the craft beer industry grow to become what it is today...

Pirate Life's favourite digestif after a crew meal, Amaro Montenegro is a powerhouse of 40 different botanicals. The team have selected their favourite handful to spice a robust Belgian Blonde Ale, along with a copious splurge of 'the Real McCoy'. Brewed for #GABS2018.
Alfonse Ale
Style: Pale Ale - Australian
ABV: 5.7%
# Ratings: 503
Score: 3.72
Brewed with the Mosaic malt bill and the Pirate Life Pale Ale hop combo the Alfonse Ale is a 5.7% pale ale with a surprisingly unique flavour and aroma considering it is a hybrid of two existing brews. Lighter and easier on the liver than the Mosaic and more delicate in its malt character than the Pale Ale the Alfonse Ale lets the hops do most of the talking. This beer is dripping with Cascades intense grapefruit and pine characters which perfectly complement the fresh tangerine and papaya tones of the Mosaic. The Alfonse Ale will only be be available in South Australia and will be pouring in bars around Adelaide all fringe season.

Brewed for our 2nd anniversary party and the second Tomfoolery x Pirate Life collaboration we created a Saison aged in Grenache barrels. Once again the combination of beer and wine is unlike any we have ever made or tasted before. More wine than beer, it hits the palate with a bone dry almost Riesling like character which after a few moments of confusion gives way to a typical Saison finish thanks to the French Ale yeast with which it was fermented. It’s a beer which will have you second guessing all the way and one which we have enjoyed brewing with our mates up at Tomfoolery.

At the very northern end of New Zealand’s south island there exists a special place. The micro climate that exists in this small area supports acres of fields which produce some of the world’s most resplendent hop farms. Legends have been born here – hops which have become a mainstay on the world stage of brewing. NZ hops are the brewing equivalent of a young Shane Warnes wrong-un -they bamboozle and captivate drinkers with their unique, gentle fruit driven characters. Whenever a IIPA brewed with NZ hops comes on the scene, the beer drinking masses are stumped. Where is that big piney, dank character I expected? Why is this beer not stripping the tastebuds from my mouth with its bitterness? With this beer that was never the aim. It is a showcase of the subtle characters of NZ hops. Hints of peach, pine, mint and tropical fruit march up your nostrils and dance across your tastebuds. The unique and colourful NZ hop character is all wrapped up in a “tortilla bun” of good quality Australian, English and German malts. Tipping the scales at 7.8% ABV and 70 IBU this beer is dangerously drinkable and seriously sessionable on a hot summer afternoon.
Madame Hanoi Vietnamese Saison
Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 5.4%
IBUs: 10
# Ratings: 145

Pirate Life have conspired with Madame Hanoi chef Nic Watt to create a special Vietnamese Saison for the North Terrace Restaurant as it turns one. It’s a full-bodied liquid with a nose of fresh mango and palate of pineapple citrus. Vietnamese Saison has a long lasting finish that leaves a slick of hops on the back of the tongue.
