Patrons Project 5.06 // Light IPA // Ricky Lightfoot // Dale Head Summit
||Northern Monk (England)
||IPA - Session / India Session Ale
After the previous two in this series being Watching Crag, a DDH Black IPA and Three Peaks Mountain Race, a Yorkshire farmhouse ale, we wanted to revisit the paler side of the spectrum and brew another light IPA. In terms of ABV we aimed for 3.5%, lower than some of the previous in the series but harnessing everything we learnt from beers such as Striding Edge, the only patrons to make it into core range!
We aimed as ever to make the beer super sessionable yet super flavoursome. The malt bill features oats to add body and a touch of Light Munich malt as it provides a light yet full bodied base for a dry hop that combines the huge flavours of Simcoe, Topaz and Mosaic. We opted to increase the whirlpool addition to double what we usually do for our low ABV beers to add depth of flavour and aroma. Expect upfront citrus, subtle hints of berry and a solid backbone of resinous pine.
