We've come up with a name for our charity of the week program for this year, Gamers Giving Back! What's a cool name though without a cool logo? We're looking for a graphic designer to help design a logo for the program this year (Ryan is horrible at logo design or he'd tackle it). Please reach out to us directly through Facebook Messenger if you'd be willing to help out.
Last week between our donation, and the donations of our guests, we raised $482.98 for Friends of Avondale Libraries and Recreation. Thanks to everyone that chipped in, every little bit adds up!
A couple of months ago, Mrs. 8-Bit injured her foot (in a bounce house, because Krystina). It was during this time that we were introduced to the Southwest lending Closet. This organization loans out medical supplies like crutches, knee scooters, and more, to help them with short-term needs. Krystina is grateful for the help she received and we’re excited to help support others who find themselves needing a bit of assistance with equipment (which can normally be incredibly expensive to rent or purchase).
We even got to tour the facility, which was a great experience. We learned that in 2019 alone, they over 11,000 client transactions and saved people an estimated $830,000 in medical equipment needs. It took over 7,400 volunteer hours to do this (so if you have some spare time, they could always use extra help - they especially need a webmaster!).
Funds are always needed, but we will also be accepting gently used equipment on their behalf (including items like crutches, knee scooters, walking canes, and walkers - we’ll have a full list of needed equipment in the tasting room). Our hope is that in addition to our donation, we can help educate the community on the availability of this resource, so whether you donate or not, visit SLC if you ever need to borrow equipment!
