The trap was set, covered in a ghillie cloak of lime leaves and coconut oolong tea leaves the Hopsassin struck from above leaving Bowser helpless for Mario to finish! Today's hacked beer is Guise of the Tanooki! Based on one of our most popular Hopsassin's hacks, It's Hopsassin's Creed session IPA with toasted coconut oolong tea and lime leaves. The lime leaves add a bit more depth and a touch of fruity pebbles flavor to the coconut tea to create a Thai inspired flavor that lingers after each sip. This hacked beer is sure to please any of our Hopsassin's fans, especially those that like the normal hacked version. Only 5 gallons of this one on tap today. Since it's pouring out of the kegerator we won't be doing growler fills this time around.

Happy Friday! We've only got about 2 cases of Bonus Fruit cans left and a little on tap, so if you're a fan of this one grab it before it's gone! We've also got some really exciting news for Beer Week that we'll work on getting posted within the next week. Last week between our donation and all of our guests donations we were able to raise $547.98 for the Southwest Lending Closet, as always you guys rocked it with your generosity! As most of you have heard us mention a few times, we chose a LOT of animal based charities for our Gamers Giving Back program this year. Mr. and Mrs. 8-Bit are both animal lovers, but there’s only so much room for pets and furry friends in a small home, so we have to find other opportunities to help. To that end, this week's organization is the Arizona Humane Society. AHS is a no-kill shelter, so we’re really excited to support them as they save the lives of countless pets who might otherwise be euthanized. Their philosophy and mission makes them unique in that they don’t turn away animals who are sick or injured and may not be as easily adopted out. Over the past 6 years, their comprehensive medical and behavioral rehabilitation efforts have saved over 100,000 pets. In addition to this, their Kitten Nursey and Bottle Baby ICU has saved over 1,100 kittens just last year alone! Growing up, Ryan's mom would always take him to AHS when it was time to adopt a new kitty, and encourage him to choose one of the "less adoptable" kittens. Growing up he had a cat with a couple kinks in it's tail, and another with 6 toes on each paw! They have a long history of taking care of animals in need and fighting for legislation to protect and improve the lives of animals and pets throughout Arizona. If you’re an animal-person, too, we hope you’ll help support AHS with us this week!

Happy Tuesday! Tickets to our Valentine's day beer and Chinese food dinner, Be My Player 2, are on sale in the tasting room tonight and online tomorrow once we post the event. Tickets are only $90 per couple for 5 courses and 5 beers. They typically sell out in about a week so don't wait too long to grab them! Today's hacked beer is Black Mage with Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Ryan packed tons of peanut butter into this one along with over a pound of cacao nibs. It's got lots of chocolate and peanut butter in the aroma, a strong peanut butter flavor and just the right amount of chocolate in the finish. We only got about 4 gallons of this one due to the peanut butter drinking about a gallon of beer. See you tonight!

We've come up with a name for our charity of the week program for this year, Gamers Giving Back! What's a cool name though without a cool logo? We're looking for a graphic designer to help design a logo for the program this year (Ryan is horrible at logo design or he'd tackle it). Please reach out to us directly through Facebook Messenger if you'd be willing to help out. Last week between our donation, and the donations of our guests, we raised $482.98 for Friends of Avondale Libraries and Recreation. Thanks to everyone that chipped in, every little bit adds up! A couple of months ago, Mrs. 8-Bit injured her foot (in a bounce house, because Krystina). It was during this time that we were introduced to the Southwest lending Closet. This organization loans out medical supplies like crutches, knee scooters, and more, to help them with short-term needs. Krystina is grateful for the help she received and we’re excited to help support others who find themselves needing a bit of assistance with equipment (which can normally be incredibly expensive to rent or purchase). We even got to tour the facility, which was a great experience. We learned that in 2019 alone, they over 11,000 client transactions and saved people an estimated $830,000 in medical equipment needs. It took over 7,400 volunteer hours to do this (so if you have some spare time, they could always use extra help - they especially need a webmaster!). Funds are always needed, but we will also be accepting gently used equipment on their behalf (including items like crutches, knee scooters, walking canes, and walkers - we’ll have a full list of needed equipment in the tasting room). Our hope is that in addition to our donation, we can help educate the community on the availability of this resource, so whether you donate or not, visit SLC if you ever need to borrow equipment!

Today's special tapping is Bit n' Feather braggot. We brewed this with our good friends nextdoor at Scale & Feather Meadery and it's a hybrid of both beer and mead. We used a ton of honey malts and a whopping 95 pounds of wildflower honey from the hives next to the brewery to get this ancient style just right. There's a wonderful honey aroma with just tiny hint of hops in the aroma, followed by a rich, malty backbone and silky smooth mouthfeel. It finishes with just the right amount of honey and a touch of dark fruit and a light warmth that's perfect for the cooler weather right now.

Assassinate your preconceptions of Session IPAs with Hopsassin’s Creed. Chinook hops hint at Connor’s Native American background from Assassin’s Creed 3. And the Mosaic and Columbus hops remind us of Ezio, the ultimate Assassin and our favorite member of the Brotherhood. With stealthy grapefruit aromas and a citrusy, hoppy finish, you’ll be glad you accepted this target. It’s perfect for a daylong gaming session!
Legend of Zymur

# Ratings: 1,535
Score: 3.95
For adventurers who want to take their taste buds on a legendary quest, Legend of Zymur is a perfect weapon of choice. Our head brewer Ryan developed this complex double IPA over seven years and masterfully combined five of the best American hops to craft this unique beer. Simcoe, Citra, Cascade, Mosaic, and Amarillo blend to create a playful citrus flavor and late-wort hopping leaves drinkers with a satisfyingly hoppy beer without the harsh bitter bite one would normally expect in a DIPA. It’s dangerous to go alone, so you’ll be glad you took this!
Black Mage

Special Ingredients: Brewer’s Licorice and Cocoa Nibs Black Mage uses the forces of black magic to create a stout that has the body and mouthfeel of a much bigger beer while still managing to have a certain lightness that makes it drinkable even under Arizona’s harsh summer sun. The brewer’s licorice subtly blends with the depth of the cocoa nibs and the roasted and chocolate malts give this beer a rich coffee finish. You’ll be glad you joined the dark side after the first sip!
Figgy Pudding

Special Ingredients: Figs, Cacao Nibs, Sweet Orange Peel So bring us some figgy pudding, so bring us some figgy pudding, so bring us some figgy pudding, in the form of a beer! Really, who needs their desserts in cake form, when beer works just as well? You’ll be singing your way through the New Year after trying this stout, which is highlighted by flavors of chocolate and dark fruit.

Brown ales are boring, so we spiced this one up by making it taste like honey cinnamon graham crackers! Ryan used a blend of various grains with graham, biscuit, and honey flavors, along with 3 different types of cinnamon to mimic the flavors.

Special Ingredients: White Cocoa Beans, Grains of Paradise When we say it’s not a beer, it’s a health potion, we aren’t kidding! White Mage is brewed with white cocoa beans and grains of paradise, ingredients linked to several health benefits. The grains of paradise combine with the Cascade hops to mimic the citrus of orange peel normally found in wit biers, while the white cocoa beans add a unique nuttiness to the beer. Whether or not they really have curative power is up to you, but you won’t regret adding this smooth, drinkable healer to your party!

Special Ingredients: Mosaic, Rakau, Columbus, Peach For once you won’t have to travel castle to castle to find your princess. Instead, try a glass of Princess, our Peach IPA, and even Bowser won’t be able to stop you. With almost a pound of peach per gallon of beer, this 8 oz. glass of royalty will keep you refreshed, even when you have to warp down sewage tubes. But hey, we’re not judging. The hoppy finish and peachy after-taste will make your escapades through plumbing pipes all worthwhile.

Special Ingredients: Lime Leaves Mario may use leaves to grow a raccoon tail, but we think we found a better use for them. By adding these offensively-titled leaves into a beer, we created a refreshing brew that smells like Fruit Loops and tastes like spring. It has a light citrus flavor and it mingles with the hops to create a crisp brew that will have you collecting coins in the clouds.

Special Ingredients: Pumpkin, Ginger, Allspice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg The town of Sleepy Hollow wouldn’t be so tired if they only had access to this beer. They’d want to stay up night after night enjoying this pumpkin pie in a glass. All natural and all autumn, over 50 lbs. of pumpkin are hand processed each year for the fall miniboss. And even if the headless horseman doesn’t, this brew certainly goes down easy.

Sleepy Hollow, thought the horseman was dead, they'd already finished him off, then Ichabod went to sleep... Brewed with over 110 pounds of fresh local pumpkin from a few miles up the road, this beer has a thick rich body with heavy chocolate and pumpkin notes. We compare it to a dark chocolate bar filled with pumpkin pie.

Our spin on a red ale, we call it a West Coast Red Ale. Not quite as malty as a typical red ale, and not quite as hoppy as an IPA, this beer is crisp, clean, and refreshing. We brewed this ale with a single type of malt (Red X) and a single hop (Belma) as a fun experiment and out second beta beer ever.
