Red Maiden
Style: Red Ale - American Amber / Red
ABV: 6.0%
IBUs: 28
# Ratings: 991
Score: 3.58
Red Maiden was the first beer brewed at Bold Mariner. It is named to commemorate our maiden voyage. We use real Irish Ale yeast and caramunich malt, which gives it hints of caramel. We chose a figurehead to represent Red Maiden; a ship's figurehead is the carved wooden figure traditionally mounted on the prow of early sailing ships. It gave a unique character and was believed to soothe the sea gods and ensure a safe voyage.

The first IPA was brewed by the British in order to solve the problem of beer spoiling on its voyage to India to supply British troops. The high alcohol and hop content prevented the beer from going bad and the added vitamins fought off scurvy in the men. Since then many variations have been created. An India Red Ale is an American red ale brewed at a higher strength and hopped like an IPA. Typically redder in color than an IPA, with deep ruby hues. Bold Mariner India Red Ale is a red ale with firm maltiness and bursting with tropical fruit flavors from the El Dorado hops rounded out by notes of caramel, toffee and biscuit. Brewed for those who are in it for the long haul.
