A couple of years back we found ourselves empty nesters and started thinking about the next chapter in our lives. With the kids out of the house, we could rekindle the freedom and romance of the early years, spend countless hours gazing at one another, taking long walks in the park, and maybe traveling more . . . or we could do something else. It took out about 30 (nano) seconds to decide on something else - starting a small business.

Being born and raised on a farm and ranch, Barry had a great appreciation for the hardworking lifestyle known to many in White Sulphur Springs. With its high elevation and cool evening temperatures, the area grows high quality wheat and malting barley. What kind of business could we start that would celebrate the hard working life style of farming and ranching in our community while utilizing locally grown products? A brewery of course! And, what if we malted the wheat and barley ourselves?

There's nothing like enjoying a beer with family and friends, even better, if it's locally brewed with local ingredients. We started researching, visiting other breweries, putting together a business plan, and experimenting with many differents types of beer, and here 2 Basset Brewery was born.

About the name: We have two delightful basset hounds named Stanley and LeRoy. Basset hounds are friendly, easy going, sociable, and they love to relax. Most of all, they make us laugh. So it seemed to us that people enjoy sharing a beer with family and friends for some of the very same reasons that we enjoy basset hounds.

Who doesn't wait in anticipation for good things to happen? Stanley and Leroy mostly anticipate breakfast and napping, but we were anticipating brewing a good IPA and we think this makes the cut. India Pale Ales or IPAs are known for their bold, strongly hopped flavor. Our version has just that, with a slightly bitter profile and a balancing malt background.

When we brewed our first Scottish Ale, our tasters kept belting them down and commented that the taste was excellent so we knew it would be a keeper that had to have the perfect name. It was destiny that when looking up Scottish slang we found the word "belter" is to be excellent, great, fantastic. This ale has a deep copper color with rich, smoky, malty flavors and aromas. If only we could get the bassets in a kilt!

This beer represents what we are all about. Being located in a beautiful ranching and farming community and using locally grown and malted grains, it is only fitting that we serve a Farmhouse Ale. This beer is based on the simple, rustic ales which were brewed to refresh, sustain and comfort a hard-working body and mind.
Stanley Stout
Style: Stout - Milk / Sweet
ABV: 5.2%

Don't let the name fool you! Stouts are often mistaken as dark, heavy beers with high ABVs, but many such as Stanley Stout are highly drinkable. This Milk Stout is a full-bodied beer with a creamy sweetness that counters the roasted character. This is a rich and complex beer that is quite satisfying.

Blonde ales are a modern beer popularized in the 1990s as a way to introduce American consumers (who were used to traditional mass-market beers) to the wonders and diversification of craft beers. This light-bodied ale is crisp and well balanced with a slightly malty taste. Some of our tasters can't stop chasing blondes..
