Brewery Vivant is a fantastic East Hills Neighborhood microbrewery and pub located in a sustainably renovated historical chapel. We combine our passion for great beer and food, environmental sustainability, service, and a focus on community. Ours beers maintain a Belgian inspiration, while pursuing our own unique creative direction. Our menu ranges from classic French preparations, to bar favorites and a killer burger. Tour notes: Due to popular demand and very limited space in our brewery, tours are limited to 35 people on a first come first serve basis. Sorry, we can not take reservations over the phone and can not guarantee spots ahead of time. Your best plan is to get here a little early and purchase a tour ticket from the host to be assured a place for the tour.

There was a time in old world France when nearly every family farm had a brewery. A necessary part of farm life was to provide a ration of beer to sustain and nourish the laborers, and beer was safer to drink than the water of the time. Farmhand is our interpretation of what these rustic beers must have been like. It is slightly cloudy from being made with raw un-malted grains and a simple single infusion of mash procedure.

Our brewers are slinging some serious hops into this Belgian inspired DIPA, which is why we initially named it "Trebuchet", the mediaeval French catapult pictured at right. We ran into a snafu with the name when we discovered another cool brewery in California already had it trademarked. Instead of crying about it, we just changed it to the way 9 out of 10 people pronounced it anyway. Tree Bucket. Took a French word and used American phonetics-- kind of like what we do with our beer styles. Cheers! Characteristics: Belgian candy sugar and the Ardennes yeast strain lend sweetness to this very, very hoppy beer. Tropical fruit-forward Citra hops, among others, give balance to the sweet profile and high ABV. The beer is babied in the fermentation tanks and dry hopped just before packaging. From aroma to sip to burp, this beer will have you storming the gates for your next pint. Great with: If you like spicy foods, this beer will add fuel to the fire as the excessive hop charges will intensify the heat. Think adobo tacos, spicy veggie chili, or a pepperoni-jalapeno-pineapple pizza. Cheese Picks: Really sharp, aged cheddar is delightful. Hooks' 7-year from Wisconsin is a favorite here amonst the pub staff.

This is what Belgian beer is all about: Using locally available ingredients, each sip brings forth nuances that make this beer worth truly savoring. Characteristics: Clover honey added during the boil contributes color and complexity but adds no sweetness to the beer as the sugars are broken down during fermentation. Look for whispers of apricot and nectarine on the palate, mixed with the floral aroma of the hops grown in northern Michigan.

Zaison takes its inspiration from the famous Saison style of beer madein the southern region of Belgium. Traditionally this beer is made in the coolness of the winter months to be enjoyed in the Spring and Summer. Our special yeast strain gives this beer a little funkiness and is accented with tellicherry black peppercorns and orange peel. At 9% abv this is probably one of the strongest summer beers you will encounter. The alcohol contributes to the flavor so who are we to try to reduce it? This is the strength the beer wanted to be, so we left it that way.

A Michigan autumn heralds color tours, corn mazes and bountiful pumpkin harvests (4th in the nation, last we checked!). This rustic beer is fermented with real pumpkin and a hint of Fall spices. Our farmhouse yeast yields a delightful tartness that sets this pumpkin beer apart.
