Furious
Style: IPA - American

Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.
Coffee Bender
Style: Brown Ale - American
ABV: 5.1%
# Ratings: 45,406
Score: 3.94
This beer is our regular Bender beer with a cold-press coffee-brewing process. We steep 20 gallons at a time, so this beer will pop up at Tours, beer fests and special tappings. The coffee is roasted locally at Coffee & Tea Limited in Linden Hills.
Abrasive Ale
Style: IPA - Imperial / Double
ABV: 9.2%
IBUs: 100
# Ratings: 40,265
Score: 4.25
A massive dose of Citra hops launch our legendary double IPA (Minnesota’s first, and a nod to our abrasives factory origin) into the hophead stratosphere.
GRINDCORE
Style: Stout - Milk / Sweet
ABV: 6.0%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 4.25
This espresso milk stout has been a crowd favorite since we introduced it in March. Using Jim’s 5-Star French Roast from Minneapolis’ Coffee & Tea Ltd., Grindcore showcases the rich, roasty character of intense cold-brew coffee, and features lactose (milk sugar) that adds a subtly-sweet caramel and molasses note to tame the espresso bite. The result is an extremely full-flavored beer that coffee lovers will clamor for.
Sleek IPA
Style: IPA - American
ABV: 6.5%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 3.00
Brewed with oats for a rich mouthfeel without added sweetness. Sleek IPA features malted oats, flaked oats, and golden naked oats as a base for a hefty dry-hop dose of Simcoe hops.
Liberty Spikes
Style: IPA - New England
ABV: 7.4%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 4.00
Grab the gel and the blow dryer and get some Liberty Spikes. Dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Denali hops, this juicy and dank IPA is hoppy enough to make your hair stand on end.
Pyrotechnic Pils
Style: Pilsner - German
ABV: 5.5%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 3.50
Pilsners—when done correctly—contain explosions of pure flavor satisfaction. Brewed in the German tradition, our Pils features classic Spalt Select hops and a perfect malt balance that is full of flavor, yet crisp and drinkable.

Space Race

In the immortal words of JFK: “We chose to make this hazy IPA not because it is easy, but because it is hard.” The good news is, it’s easy to drink. Brewed with Mosaic, Citra, and Amarillo hops for a juicy flavor that will send you straight to the moon.
Darkness (2015) Barrel-Aged
Style: Stout - Russian Imperial
ABV: 12.0%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 4.75
This massive Russian Imperial Stout brings waves of flavors; chocolate, cherries, raisins, coffee, and toffee. Barrel-Aged Darkness is a limited edition variant that spent over three months aging in Rye Whiskey barrels from High West, a distillery in Park City, Utah. The aging process provides a distinct aromatic whiskey character that is oaky and spicy on top of the core Darkness flavors.
Youthful Exuberance
Style: IPA - Imperial / Double
ABV: 9.1%
# Ratings: 1
Score: 4.25
We dry-hopped this hazy double IPA with an exuberant amount of Mosaic, Citra, and Topaz hops. Expect overwhelmingly juicy hop flavors of citrus, stone fruit, and pineapple. Growing up is overrated.
Frisson
Style: Bière de Champagne / Bière Brut
ABV: 9.0%
# Ratings: 1

This sparkling wine-inspired lager, with notes of green apple and black currant, is finished with champagne yeast for a dry, effervescent finish.
Todd - The Axe Man (Surly Release)

English: For quite some time the Amager crew has been discussing this question: which person is the most rock’n’roll in the whole craft beer world - is it Barnaby Struve of Three Floyds or is it Todd Haug of Surly Brewing? In the end it wasn’t really all that difficult to decide since only Todd has played for Laura Dern in a David Lynch movie (yeah, Nicolas Cage was in that same movie, but since when did he count?) AND Todd plays the guitar in both a speed metal band and a stoner band. Add to that that Todd and his wife Linda are some of the nicest people to hang out with. So Todd, here’s to you: "Todd - The Axe Man" - a potent IPA loaded with fresh American aroma hops on a base of rich Golden Promise malt, Surly’s signature malt. Raise a glass to Todd, world class brewer - and master of the axe! Bonus facts about Todd: yes, he DID actually have a perm in his younger days (his wife confirms) and he does indeed love cats an awful lot.

It’s been said, “It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer.” And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA Bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. “Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers,” and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.
Hell
Style: Lager - Helles
ABV: 5.0%
IBUs: 20
# Ratings: 41,371
Score: 3.56
Finally, a Surly beer my German mother will drink. She says this one tastes like a bier from back home. Not unlike a Zwickel Bier from Germany, Hell is not filtered and fermented with lager yeast, American hops takes a back seat to the Pils malt sweetness and fresh bread aroma. The color is well... hell (Deutsch for light). It’s fiendishly drinkable, and you don’t have to sell your soul to get another.
Xtra-Citra
Style: Pale Ale - American
ABV: 4.5%
# Ratings: 40,833

You'd think hops in the bright sunshine would make us happy, but you'd be wrong. This bright colored session ale Xplodes with Citra hop flavor and aroma, in a deliciously drinkable brew.
Bender
Style: Brown Ale - American
ABV: 5.1%
IBUs: 25
# Ratings: 26,699
Score: 3.75
This beer is an amalgamation of styles; brown/porter/APA. Five distinct malts, including two from Belgium, give this beer added complexity and depth. We also add oatmeal to this beer to give it a smooth texture not usually associated with this type of beer. We add large amounts of American finishing hops to give Bender a citrus hop aroma because... we like hops. This is a session beer weighing in around 5% alcohol and 25 IBUs. Grab one today, we think you will want another!
Cynic
Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 6.5%

Oh great, a fizzy yellow beer in a can, that's just what the craft beer world needs! CynicAle melds Old World ingredients in a new school style. French malted barley, English oats and Belgian yeast create honey & black pepper flavors. Lively Slovenian hops provide the floral, apricot and peach notes. Toss your doubts away, toss one back and enjoy!
Blakkr (Surly Release)
Style: IPA - Imperial / Double Black
ABV: 9.99%
IBUs: 85
# Ratings: 19,549
Score: 4.09
This double black as night IPA is too massive for just one brewery's efforts. BLAKKR took the trinity of Real Ale Brewing Co., Surly Brewing Co. and Three Floyds Brewing Co. to actualize this crushing ale. This Imperial Black IPA has flavors of black licorice and bitter sweet hop aromas of pineapple.
SurlyFest
Style: Märzen

When we say we don’t brew to style, we mean it: Our Oktoberfest beer is a dry-hopped rye lager with an earthy, biscuity flavor profile. Prost! Kind of!
Cacao Bender
Style: Brown Ale - American
ABV: 5.5%
IBUs: 45
# Ratings: 15,990
Score: 4.02
Our oatmeal brown ale gets aged on cacao nibs and vanilla (beans, not extract) and finished with cold press coffee, yielding a lush, cappuccino-like creaminess. Also, it’s pronounced ka-COW.
Damien
Style: IPA - Black / Cascadian Dark Ale
ABV: 6.6%
# Ratings: 15,425

From the blackest depths of the brewhouse comes Damien, Child of Darkness. Spawned from the usually discarded remnants of Darkness, Damien is a dry-hopped black ale. Flavors of roasted malt and dark brown sugar suffocated by aromas of tangerine and pine.

Doomtree
Style: Extra Special / Strong Bitter
ABV: 5.7%
# Ratings: 10,964
Score: 3.61
Surly started with homebrewing in the garage. Doomtree making some noise a basement. Careful what you do in your spare time, man. That stuff just might end up taking over your whole life. A decade later, Doomtree meets Surly. Instant crush. We’re both indie and strong-willed. We love Minnesota and we are allergic to focus groups. We don’t have a formal professional outfit between us. We convene at the brewery to scheme. Working in extreme secrecy, we decide to make a beer. Team Surly suggests a “bastardized style” that will build on the classic, but buck convention. Doomtree cannot nod vigorously enough. We know this style. Guided by instinct, we came up with this dark, gold, toasty aromatic, subtly spicy, bitter enough, dry-hopped brew. Best enjoy it cold in a spare room with new friends
Smoke
Style: Smoked Beer
ABV: 8.2%
IBUs: 50
# Ratings: 10,263
Score: 3.85
Ebony-hued, Smoke wafts out of the bottle and into your senses, borne on the wings of European traditions, wrapped in American innovation. Lager-brewed, like any true Baltic Porter, with smoked malts from Bamberg, Germany, the home of Rauchbiers, then mellowed by oak-aging. Black malt flavors mesh with notes of raisins, plums, figs and licorice with the subtle smoke on the side, for a complex and luxurious, yet silky smooth drinking experience. It's a sipper at Alc. 8.2% by VOL., but everyone knows you can't have Smoke without fire!

WE COME FROM THE NORTH. The winter months take their toll. It can make a person . . . well, Surly. Still, we rise. And when the North rises, the North gets thirsty. This American Pale Ale was brewed to satisfy that thirst. Featuring bright, citrusy hops and a warming malt base, this is the official beer of Minnesota United. Misanthrope
Style: Saison / Farmhouse Ale
ABV: 6.8%
# Ratings: 6,279
Score: 3.88
This Belgian-style saison ale is aged in oak barrels with Brettanomyces. Golden in color, it has notes of tropical fruit wrapped in an oaky horse blanket, and, you know, other stuff that combine to produce blah blah blah to create blah and etc. It is best served cool and enjoyed alone or with a tolerated companion.
