Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 1963 Letters to a Birmingham Jail
The annual observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. may be one of the few times we stop as a nation to truly be reminded of and reflect upon the civic ideals that shape our society. It wasn’t until the turn of the millennium that all 50 states officially observed the holiday, and for some, the significance of its meaning is still ambiguous. But we don’t need to look far to see the central parts of Dr. King's message and legacy playing out right here in our very own community.
We continue to be confronted with various challenges that call us to action in shaping our corner of the world. Sometimes those calls to action are uncomfortable, or unpopular, but they’re the only way to make a change.
We feel that responsibility to act reaches all of us, right down to our taproom.
So, we fight disparities by doing things differently, that’s who we are. At 734 Brewing Company, we’re taking a different approach in an age-old industry and it’s not lost on us how different things may seem around here from the norm, some will get it, and others won’t, (kind of like Ypsi), and we stand proudly in this space because we understand it’s an important one.
